Tezuka Zone (手塚ゾーン, Tezuka Zōn)A (nearly) impossible technique, only 3 people are known to use this technique. This technique forces any shots the opponent hits right back to Tezuka. The reason any of the opponent's returns are "sucked" into his hit zone is due to the large specific amount of spin that is required for Tezuka to add to the ball, which is freely controlled. Tezuka does not even need to move a step; all he needs to do is pivot one foot around the area he is standing in without lifting that foot from the ground, and putting a specific rotation on the ball with every hit.
Tezuka PhantomA variation of the Tezuka Zone, instead of sucking the ball towards Tezuka, it forces the ball out of bounds.

Counters
Sometimes called the "Three Counter Moves" (or more often called the Triple Counter).six counters, his set of counters is still called "Triple Counter". Fuji's first four counters are based on animals: Tsubame Gaeshi: Swallow; Higuma Otoshi: Brown Bear; Hakugei: Whale; Kagerō Zutsumi: Dragonfly. When Fuji "evolves" his Triple Counter, their new names are based on mythical creatures: Hōō Gaeshi: Phoenix; Kirin Otoshi: Qilin; Hakuryu: Dragon.
Tsubame Gaeshi (燕返し, Tsubame Gaeshi, trans. "Swallow Return")The first of Fuji's counters to be shown and the one he is often most associated with, Fuji utilizes his opponent's topspin by returning the ball with an extreme slice that doubles the amount of spin. The slice combines with the topspin and causes the ball to dip toward the ground and continue rolling across the court without a bounce.Higuma Otoshi (羆落とし, Higuma Otoshi, trans. "Bear Drop")By quickly rotating his body, Fuji uses centripetal force to absorb the force of any overhead smash; he then returns the ball with a lob that almost always lands on the opponent's baseline.
Hakugei (白鯨, Hakugei, trans. "White Whale")Fuji's third counter, Hakugei is a super slice lob with such extreme backspin that as soon as it passes over the net on to the opposite court, it curves upwards out of sight, than it falls straight down (usually on the baseline), and it flies back to Fuji's hand.
Kagerō Zutsumi (蜻蛉ずつみ, Kagerō Zutsumi, lit. Dragonfly Illusion)Fuji's fourth counter, Kagerō Zutsumi uses both hands as he brings his racket down in an overhead swing that both contains and nullifies all spin on the ball. The ball is then returned devoid of spin, and gives the other player the illusion that the ball is farther than it actually is.
Hōō Gaeshi (鳳凰返し, Hōō Gaeshi, lit. Phoenix Return)The upgraded version of Tsubame Gaeshi, Hōō Gaeshi is one of the 3 upgraded techniques of the Triple Counter that Fuji creates in his match against Kuranosuke Shiraishi in the Nationals.Kirin Otoshi (キリン落とし, Kirin Otoshi, lit. Kirin/Qilin Drop)The upgraded version of Higuma Otoshi. The only visible difference from this technique is that Fuji uses two hands to repel Shiraishi's smash rather than the one handed Higuma Otoshi.
Hakuryū (白竜, Hakuryū, lit. White Dragon)The upgraded version of Hakugei. Unlike Hakugei, Hakuryū rises much higher into the sky. Instead of spinning backwards to Fuji, the ball will bounce towards the sides.
Hecatoncheires no Monban (へカトンケイルの門番, Hekatonkeiru no Monban, lit. Gate Keeper of Hecatoncheires)Fuji's fifth counter (first stated to be his "final" counter), Hecatoncheires no Monban, is actually translated to "The Hundred Armed Giant", but this is a title from Greek Mythology, and thus kept with the name "Gate Keeper of Hecatoncheires".
Hoshi Hanabi (星花火, Hoshi Hanabi, lit. Star Fireworks)Hoshi Hanabi is Fuji's sixth counter.When the opponent hits a cord ball as a result of returning Hecatoncheires no Monban, Fuji responds by launching the ball straight into the sky, out of anyone's field of vision. Due to a certain wind, the ball will then crash land at a very high speed with an irregular spin and it will bounce to any side. He first used this technique in his match against Shitenhōji's Shiraishi on his last shot but the shot was out.Serves
- Disappearing Serve
- Otherwise known as a "cut-serve", but because Fuji spins the ball as he drops it, this particular underhand serve makes the ball also disappears.
Knuckle ServeThis move is shown when Fuji is playing Akaya Kirihara from Rikkai Dai .Before the user throws the ball in the air, the user squeezes the ball first to add an extreme and unpredictable spin. Its direction can only be seen by the one who served it.

Ryoma can be quite arrogant at times, but is usually able to back up his statements with his tennis skills. He is usually distrustful of other tennis players, and Ryoma often provokes his opponent before a match.
Ryoma is arrogant by nature, yet he can be very childish at times. He is also unafraid almost to the point of recklessness, but rarely gets angry or out of control.

Serves
- A serve Ryoma typically performs with his right hand, though it needs to be hit with the opponent's dominant hand. The twist serve is Ryoma's most notable shot. It is meant to shoot towards the opponent's face, making it difficult to return. He can perform it with his left hand when he is facing left-handed opponents. He claims that he does this so he can hit the opponent in the face with the ball.
- Twist Serve Tornado
- The Twist Serve curves to the face in an abnormal way. In the OVA, Ryoma tried to use the twist serve in a slanted court, which resulted in the bounce of the serve being too weak and making it easy to return. Ryoma then adjusted his grip to make the twist serve bounce as it would normally in a court, and when used in a regular court, it became an irregular bounce.
Smash
- Twist Smash (ツイスト スマッシュ, tsuisuto sumasshu)
- The Twist Serve in the form of a smash, the ball changes direction after it hits the ground exactly like a twist serve would.
- COOL Drive (COOL ドライブ, COOL doraibu)
- A powerful smash with a huge spin that makes the ball roll instead of bouncing up. It is similar to Fuji's Tsubame Gaeshi, but the COOL Driveuse enormous sidespin instead of underspin. It can be used as a forehand or backhand shot.
- Cyclone Smash(サイクロン スマッシュ, saikuron sumasshu)
- An extraordinarily powerful smash done by jumping high into the air, and twisting, then un-twisting, the body back onto the ball.
- Dragon Cyclone Smash
- A move where Ryoma returns the ball at a high speed, creating a cyclone around him, which he then uses as a diversion as he hits his return.
- Rondo towards Destruction
- A high-level two-part smash that knocks away the opponent's racket with the first hit, and scores with the second smash, Ryoma was able to use this against Atobe, the one who invented it himself, when outside of Muga no Kyōchi.
- Sky Inversion Drop Volley
- A fake smash where Ryoma jumps and appears to smash, but suddenly, while he is still in the air, he makes a 360 turn and hits a drop shot.
Drive Volleys
- Drive B (ドライブ B, doraibu B)
- A topspin drive volley with two consecutive bounce arcs, the shape of which form the eponymous 'B'. Ryoma usually slides up near the net and then jumps to perform the Drive B.
- Drive A (ドライブ A, doraibu A)
- A topspin drive volley hit towards the face at point blank range.
- Drive C (ドライブ C, doraibu C)
- A shot similar to the COOL drive with only half the spin.
- Drive D (ドライブ D, doraibu D)
- A drive that follows up a returned Drive B, it has half the spin of the Drive B, but the speed of the return is enough to get the ball past most players.
- Samurai Drive (サムライドライブ, Samurai Doraibu)
- A (backhand) technique where Ryoma hits a powerful return toward the rope that is between the net and the pole. Because of the tremendous force, the rope slices the ball in half, resulting in both pieces going in different directions.
Other Techniques
- Snake (Buggy Whip Shot)
- A forehand or backhand shot that has an offset topspin that causes it to curve to the corners of the court, making the opponent run around and lose stamina,
- One-footed Split Step (片足スプリットステップ, kata ashi supuritto suteppu)
- A split step involving landing only one foot. This difference allows Ryoma to increase his speed and cover the court more effectively.
- Nitōryū (二刀流, |lit. Two Sword Style)
- The name given to Ryoma's ambidexterity because he can play with either hand. It is a technique inherited from his father, Nanjirō Echizen.
- Super Rising
- Super Rising is a half volley where the returner hits the ball they are returning just as it is bouncing up in order to give the opponent less time to react.
- Zero-Shiki Drop Shot
- Ryoma shows the ability to use Tezuka's famed drop shot, which is a heavy backspin drop shot that drops after passing 1 foot of the net, then after it lands on the ground, rolls back to the net instead of bouncing. However, due to Ryoma's stance (his racket 30 cm off from his normal stance)
- Stuttered Step
- Ryoma rapidly approaches the net but staggers his stride when he reaches the service line, allowing him to stop quickly and return volleys with more control.
- Tezuka Zone (Samurai Zone) (手塚ゾーン, Tezuka zōn)
- The method Tezuka uses in putting a specific spin on each ball that he hits, causing the ball to automatically return to him.
- Muga no Kyōchi (無我の境地, Muga no Kyōchi, trans. State of Self Actualization)
- A state in which the user naturally intakes all techniques he sees and can perfectly copy them its weakness is that the ability to copy the opponent comes from the body, not the brain, and as a result, wears out one's body out further than usual since most techniques are beyond what a person can execute.
- The Samurai's Eye (侍の目, Samurai no Me) is the anime equivalent of Muga no Kyōchi. It gives Ryoma a very dynamic play style because he is able to switch between many other player's techniques.
- Muga no Kyōchi has three doors:
- Hyaku Ren Jitoku no Kiwami (Pinnacle of Hard Work)
- He unlock this when Muga no Kyōchi is useless against Rikkai Dai's Captain Yukimura Seiichi in the National Finals. Ryoma can use Hyaku Ren Jitoku no Kiwami to focus all his energy into different parts of his body, increasing the capabilities of that body part.
- Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami (Pinnacle of Great Wisdom)

- This is the ultimate door and final door of Muga no Kyōchi. In this state, Ryoma's hair and eyes turn permanently green, along with most of his hair spiking upwards. Ryoma then uses Teni Muhō No Kiwami to hit the ball at a speed that cannot be seen, unless one reviews it on a video monitor.

Moon VolleyA topspin-lob volley hit high into the air and landing directly on the baseline (or anywhere else that is unprotected at the time).
Australian FormationA specialty formation Oishi and his double's partner Eiji Kikumaru perform. It involves standing directly on the center line and confusing the opponents as to which way each player will move when the ball is placed into the opposing court. It requires extreme knowledge of one's double's partner.
Spin ServeVery similar to the Kick Serve whereas a large amount of topspin is added to the ball during the serve motion at an oblique angle causing it to bounce unusually high.
Oishi TerritoryThis formation has the defense expert Oishi go to the net, while attacker Eiji stays in the back. Using this, Oishi combines his game making abilities with Eiji's Seal Step in order to control the flow of the game.

When playing in the nationals with Eiji as his doubles 1 partner, they become fully synchronized and moved as if they
were one; breathing as one and knowing exactly what their partner's next move would be. It was said that doubles

- Acrobatic Play
- Not just for flash, Eiji's flexible body allows him to reach balls with a touch of flair that few can replicate. His graceful diving volleys and flips astonish the spectators and often gets grudging praise from his opponents.
- Motion Vision
- Eiji's eyes are so sharp that he can even catch the minute movements of a ball in motion. it is definitely a plus as it allows Eiji to react faster and keep up his acrobatic play, and as an observer he can see the ball and mention details.
Kikumaru Beam
- The Kikumaru Beam is a sharp volley that is hit in the air by Eiji with his right hand on the backhand side of his body, pinpointing the ball to the place where the opponents are not standing. It is usually depicted as a backhand smash, but has been shown as a volley.
- Moon Volley
- Though this is Oishi's move, Eiji uses the topspin lob volley to both help Momoshiro and himself to both mature and gain the flow of the match during the game
- Kikumaru Bazooka
- Eiji spins high up in the air and fires off a powerful groundstroke while also shouting out "Kikumaru Bazooka!" Sometimes depicted as a smash.
- Seal Step
- Eiji uses his natural flexibility and speed to move from one location to a new one the moment the opponent's eyes leave his first location. This gives the opponent the impression that there are two of him for a doppelganger type effect. The anime exaggerates this more than the manga giving Eiji the ability to high five and hug his doppelganger making it slightly supernatural. Where as in the manga it is all about Eiji using his speed at the right moments for an illusion as is revealed.

- Data Tennis
- A style of tennis based on data gathered on the opponents, by using his extensive research of opponents, Inui is able to mentally simulate the course of the match. Not only can he quickly calculate the probability of a shot, he shows a sharp understanding of player psychology and is able to observe even the slightest movements. Inui uses this data as a weapon to control the match from the beginning. In the intra-school ranking match against Tezuka, Inui overcomes Tezuka's mind games and accurately calculates the chances of Tezuka's drop shot. Furthermore, Inui identifies that Tezuka lowers his racket by 3.2mm before hitting the drop shot, distinguishing it clearly from Tezuka's regular technique.
- Inui's Data Tennis has the distinct weakness of not being able to predict changes during the game itself. Inui loses against Ryoma and Tezuka after they displayed their true strengths and used techniques that he had never encountered before. He also has difficulty gathering data for players with abnormal abilities, such as Akutsu Jin, as well as players who hide their abilities, like Fuji. Coach Ryūzaki identifies that while Inui is able to predict the outcome of a game, he was unable to win because he lacked the strength and speed to use his data. As a result, Inui trained harder than the Seigaku regulars and was recognised as having much greater strength upon his return to the regular lineup. Inui is also aware of these limitations.
- Super Sonic Serve
- A high-speed serve that is difficult to return, it was originally simply called the 'Sonic Serve' or just a 'high-speed serve.' . the serve got faster and earned the name of 'Super Sonic Serve.' The record from this serve was 192 km/h.
Waterfall
- Inui took his Super Sonic Serve even further and improved the speed to 212 km/h
- Rising Shot
- A half-volley where the user immediately hit the ball after bouncing,
- Jack Knife
- The Jack Knife is a fast, sharp and powerful high-leveled backhand shot made by using the front foot to jump into the air with balance while utilizing a pendulum-like effect of the body to achieve maximum strength.

Kawamura is a soft-spoken person off the court, very gentle and shy, though still outspoken and stubborn when he takes a decision.

but his personality change does have a large impact on his skills.

- "Burning!"
- A state which occurs whenever Kawamura holds a racket. He gets pumped up, giving his shots more power and increasing his skill level. In episode 70 in the anime, he entered "Burning" holding a baseball bat while he was playing baseball.
- Burning Serve
- An extremely fast serve that Kawamura uses when he is in his "burning" state.
- Hadoukyuu (ハドウキュウ)
- A very powerful maneuver that uses 120% of an arm's strength or power. Originally from Gin Ishida, copied by his brother, Tetsu Ishida of Fudomine, Kawamura began using Hadoukyuu after being on its receiving end in a match between Seigaku and Fudomine. This fantasy move is based on the nonexistent principle that if given time to prepare, a player can charge the strength of his shot to give it more power. The technique is very dangerous to the arms of both the user and receiver. The move itself and its name is very similar to Street Fighter's Hadouken.
- Two-Handed Hadoukyuu (両手ハドウキュウ)
- Similar to the original and one-handed Hadoukyuu but with both arms.This lowers the risk of arm injuries caused by the Hadoukyuu original Hadoukyuu by balancing the arm strength but reduces the power of the shot due to a smaller follow through. Additionally, using two hands severely limits the range of the shot.
- Two-Handed Hadoukyuu
- Dash Hadoukyuu (ダッシュ ハドウキュウ)
- Similar to the original Hadoukyuu but performed while running or dashing towards the net. This strengthens the shot, because the momentum of the run or dash concentrates all the power of the body into one shot, but can be only used once or may break the wrist.
- Jump Hadoukyuu (ジャンプ ハドウキュウ)
- Similar to the original Hadoukyuu but performed while jumping for a smash. This makes the shot extremely difficult to return. Can be performed using the original or two-handed Hadoukyuu.
- Final Hadoukyuu
- This is a form of Hadoukyuu that hasn't actually been officially named by Konomi. Kawamura has only used Final Hadoukyuu once, during his match with Ishida Gin. After losing 23 points in a row and getting down 5-0 40-0, he uses this shot with the inspiration of Akutsu. "Final Hadoukyuu's" true power level is unknown, but it was said by Gin himself that it was greater than his 108th style hadoukyuu.

Tennis Styles and Techniques:
Dunk Smash
- Momoshiro's signature move to finish off lobs; however, Momoshiro's Dunk Smash is different than normal smashes in that he uses the momentum from running to hit the smash, through perfect timing, by jumping forward, instead of the usual jumping backwards to hit a smash; thus causing Momoshiro's Dunk Smash to be twice as powerful and more effective than a normal smash.
- Also, Momoshiro can do a Dunk Volley, where if his opponents predict a Dunk Smash, he can do a fake volley to confuse his opponents.
- Similar to the "Dunk Smash"; however, "Super Dunk" is unique in that Momoshiro uses his strength to delay the timing of the ball's bounce after it has hit the ground, thus making predicting when the ball will bounce off the ground difficult.
- Bullet Serve
- A fast and powerful serve Momoshiro likes to use.
- Jack Knife
- The Jack Knife is a fast, sharp and powerful high-leveled backhand shot made by using the front foot to jump into the air with balance while utilizing the weight of the body to achieve maximum strength. When Momoshiro uses the Jack Knife, he keeps the ball at his racket until the last moment to make it a strong shot.mitsu.
- Tornado Snake
- One of the signature shots of his rival, Kaidō Kaoru, Momoshiro uses this shot during his and Kaidō's match against Hitōji and Konjiki of Shitenhōji, in order to cause them to think he and Kaidō have switched places . A slice shot hit at a 45 degree angle to create a gyro spin, Momoshiro was also able to fake out the opponent by disguising this technique as the Dunk Smash.
- Insight
- Momoshiro's Insight is more nature-based, as he is able to sense the subtle changes in the atmosphere around him and use it to his advantage.
- Prediction
- Momoshiro was able to predict his opponent's moves and where the ball was going to land. He was able to recognize the ball was going to be out when they were playing for match point thus ultimately winning the match for Seigaku. That was shown during his match against Oshitari Yūshi. While playing Oshitari, Momoshiro gives up his "Prediction" style of playing and returns to his previous tenacious play style by playing at 100% power and re-integrating his "Jack Knife" shot.
